Tri-National online video portal powered by dicas technology

3Sat, the German-Austrian-Swiss TV broadcaster, sets on dicas technology for the expansion of its online video portal, Mediathek. The tri-national TV channel, operated by four public broadcasters ARD and ZDF (both Germany), ORF (Austria) and DRS (Switzerland), will run its Mediathek with the dicas2010 SD encoders.

Driving force behind choosing dicas at 3Sat is the German public broadcaster ZDF, which started its online video portal ZDF Mediathek in mid 2007. Using dicas' next generation encoding hardware (dicas2010) and software (mpegable DS) products, ZDF Mediathek has become a tremendous success. With approximately 7.5 million requests per month, the ZDF Mediathek is one of the largest video portals in Europe.

With selecting dicas again, ZDF further strengthens its technological co-operation with the German MPEG-4 specialist. In addition to the order from 3Sat, the dicas2010 SD encoder will also be purchased for the news channel Phoenix, which is run by the two German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF.
